Window Frames

All windows sit in a frame of some description. We can remove or fit windows to any sort of sub frame including Stone, Metal, Wood or Upvc.
Stone:
Sometimes you will find that the stone rebates of windows have been pointed up with a Portland cement based mortar. This will cause problems for the stonework as water becomes trapped behind the mortar and can cause the stone to rot and become friable. External steel strengthening bars and metal window frames have their ends secured into the stonework. As they rust they expand in their holes and cause pressure on the stone eventually causing the stone to split apart. If conservation is required we remove the bars from the stonework refurbish them and dip the ends in lead to provide a barrier between the ferrous bar and the stone. Alternatively we can supply new either lead covered steel, stainless steel or phosphor bronze.
For pointing up we use a lime/aggregate mix. We source an aggregate colour to match the stonework.
Metal:
We specialise in refurbishing the metalwork associated with windows and often the original metal frame can be restored thus saving the expense of getting an often ‘special sized’ new frame made. We use special paints to then provide long term protection to the metal.
Wood:
Often the ends of mullions rot where they join the sill. This can usually be recovered by the appropriate application of modern repair methods thus saving the expense and inconvenience of a new wooden frame.
Upvc:
Yes we do not mind talking about Upvc! Modern churches and homes have Upvc double glazed windows. We can make a stained and leaded glass window and encapsulate it inside a Double Glazed Unit, such that you can take advantage of the colour and texture of real stained and leaded glass. If your home has an original window that you wish to upgrade to Upvc but wish to retain the original stained and leaded glass then we can re-size the window so that each element fits inside the Double Glazed Unit. We can also coordinate the supply and fitting of a new Upvc or Colour powder coated Aluminium frame using our FENSA registered sister company T & M Glass.
