Meet the Team: Stuart Wilson

Stuart, or Stu, is an essential member of our team and has been with us for over 11 years, working on all aspects of lead windows and stained glass windows. He assists with the design, manufacture and implementation throughout his flexible 3-day week and is often praised for his ability to work on his own initiative which produces stunning lead windows and stained glass windows every time.

Stu began his career at Bournemouth and Poole Art College studying Graphic Design in the late 60’s before moving to various advertising agencies and design studios in and around Bournemouth and Southampton. He also went freelance in 1985, which have installed the amazing skills he brings out in his stained glass window work today. In 2003 Stu enrolled for Dorset Adult Education classes in stained glass windows along with his wife Barbara, and attended the Wimborne Adult Education Centre classes run by Sherriff Stained Glass Specialists which is where he was first inspired by stained glass windows and met Mr Sherriff himself. A chance meeting at a dentist surgery in 2005 between Stu’s wife Barbara and Sherriff Stained Glass Specialists led to a conversation about Stu’s passion of stained glass windows and lead windows and how he’d like to take it to the next level.

Stu joined the workshop, developed his stained glass windows and lead windows skills and has worked with Sherriff Stained Glass Specialists ever since. He is now in charge of the workshops and responsible for the design of windows in consultation with Steve and the manufacture and processing of stained and leaded glass before it is ready for fitting. Stuart’s son, Jason Wilson, is now working part time alongside Sherriff Stained Glass Specialists son Nathan in the fitting process.

Trivia Fact: Stu still produces multi media illustrations and artworks covering many subjects including animals, buildings and vehicles.  His family created the Wimborne model town.
