Stained glass window repair is very important in houses with ageing and broken stained glass panels. This is especially crucial when it comes to repairing stained glass window panels in a front door. For aesthetic and security reasons, glass panels in a front door should be well maintained. We recently completed stained glass restoration for a client in Portsmouth, restoring their front door to its former glory.
The client wanted us to work on a set of intricate front door stained glass windows. The two sets of stained glass windows had fallen into disrepair, with smaller pieces of glass having discoloured and developed cracks. The main aim of this stained glass window restoration project was to maintain and protect this stunning entranceway.
Stained Glass Repair
Before any work could begin on the stained glass repair, we had to carefully remove the panels from the door and outer doorway. Once removed, we took the stained glass windows to our Dorset workshop for our team to examine. Our team of specialists analyse each window to determine the extent of the damage.
In this case, the stained glass windows had to be completely broken down. We replace some of the smaller pieces with new glass. After replacing the defective pieces, the next step was to re-lead the panels. Re-leading with high-quality bonding increases the strength and durability of the stained glass windows. Stained glass windows that have undergone re-leading will last for another 100 years.
Once the stained glass windows had been re-inserted into the doorway, the client was very pleased with the result. The work done by our specialists restored the stained glass panels to their original beauty while ensuring that the structural integrity of the window will stay strong for many years to come.
