Stained Glass Window Restoration - Barry Road, Oldland Common
The Brief
Over time, stained glass windows can languish slightly because of weathering, decay, dirt or cracks, and the lead that seals each panel of stained glass can split and degrade. Unfortunately, this is what appeared to have happened to the feature window of this double-fronted house in Oldland Common, so they contacted us to provide stained glass window restoration. The brief was to refurbish their three-part, stairwell feature window, which can be seen in the photos below.
Getting to Work
We added a 6mm clear toughened panel to the outside of the glass to strengthen and protect the stained glass windows. At just under 2 metres wide by 2 metres high it was quite a challenge carefully manoeuvring the stained glass panels into place and ensuring that they all lined through.
To complete our window restore process, we re-lead and re-made each panel using traditional skills and techniques.
The Result
With this project, we are proud that the results really speak for themselves. In the pictures below of the stained glass restoration you can see how bright the colours are, and how they shine out from the window when the sun’s rays are on the stained glass.
