New Lead Windows

Lead Windows – Also Known as Leaded Glass or Leaded Lights
At Sherriff Stained Glass Specialists, we specialise in traditional craftsmanship to create high-quality, long-lasting leaded light windows. We use authentic materials to recreate the timeless beauty of classic leaded glass design.
How We Manufacture New Leaded Windows
All our windows are handmade by joining panes of glass together with a strip of lead, known as a lead came, which forms the backbone of the leaded glass panel.
Leaded windows are made up of quarries – pieces of glass that are cut into regular geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles, circles, or, in one of our most popular designs, diamonds. The diamond layout creates a distinctive "diaper" pattern. This method of manufacturing allows us to create a wide variety of leaded glass designs.
To ensure lasting quality, we use tinned copper wire ties on our leaded windows to prevent any green staining which can occur due to age. Each leaded glass design goes through a lead light cementing process. This ensures the window is waterproof and structurally sound for up to 100 years.

New Builds, Extensions, And Conservation Areas
New leaded light windows are a popular choice for customers adding extensions to their period properties or for new builds. It is a great way for those wishing to add character to their existing property.
Our windows are handcrafted using traditional techniques and built to meet all conservation standards, making our new leaded windows perfectly suited for use in buildings within conservation areas.
